Position Summary
Barton Creek Country Club & Resort is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head Golf Course Mechanic to lead equipment maintenance operations across a premier, multi-course resort facility. This position is responsible for overseeing the performance, maintenance, and longevity of a large and diverse fleet of golf course equipment and golf cars.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with advanced technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellence. This role is critical in supporting superior course conditions and delivering a world-class golf experience for our members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, train, and develop a team of assistant mechanics across multiple courses
- Establish and enforce shop standards, safety protocols, and operational procedures
- Coordinate daily priorities with Golf Course Superintendents and the Director of Agronomy
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Equipment Maintenance & Operations
- Oversee all preventative (P.M.) and routine (R.M.) maintenance programs
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest performance and safety standards
- Manage reel grinding, bedknife setup, and cutting unit precision across all courses
- Maintain and repair gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components
Fleet & Asset Management
- Manage a fleet including:
- Golf course maintenance equipment
- Utility vehicles and support equipment
- Large golf car fleet (resort-level volume)
- Track equipment life cycles, usage, and replacement planning
- Maintain accurate service records and maintenance logs using computerized systems
- Assist in capital planning, budgeting, and equipment procurement
Inventory & Purchasing
- Oversee parts inventory and ordering processes
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and manage warranty claims
- Ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards

Job Requirements
Advanced knowledge of:
Gasoline and diesel engines
Hydraulic systems and pumps
Electrical diagnostics and repair
Reel grinding and cutting unit setup
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
Proven leadership and team development skills
Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Understanding of the game of golf and how equipment performance impacts course conditions
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience in golf course equipment maintenance
Prior experience as a Head Mechanic or Senior Assistant Mechanic preferred
Technical training or certification in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, or related field strongly preferred
Experience in a multi-course or high-end facility highly desirable
Valid driver’s license required
