HORTICULTURE ASSISTANT
Job Details
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Some basic understanding of native, semi-tropical and tropical plant material in both the exterior and interior environments and the general care of each.
JOB SUMMARY: Assisting in planting, pruning, watering and fertilization of existing decorative plant displays, annual flower beds and interior plants. Have the ability, through training if necessary, to monitor plant health by identifying signs of disease and/or pests. Be actively involved in the design and maintenance of interior and exterior plant projects.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Able to drive a motor vehicle. Perform labor intensive work lifting 25 pounds for an extended period of time. Work with hand carried sprayer; to walk the property performing required duties and capable of working with chemicals.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, holidays and split shifts.
- Arrive to work on time, consistently.
- Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.
- Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval.
- Attend all required training, safety courses; attend office and departmental meetings.
- Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
- Learn the use of all ground’s equipment and all accompanying safety features.
- Gain specific knowledge of chemicals and their uses.
- Follow all procedures for the safe handling of chemicals.
- Monitor property for problems, identify, target and treat.
- Identify, translate and map pests and chemical applications.
- Perform any other work as assigned by the Horticulturist, Landscape Superintendent and/or the Director of Horticulture.
