GENERAL FACILITY INFORMATION
Applecross opened in 2010 as the Philadelphia Area’s Only Nicklaus Design Golf
Course. The unique layout offers classic Nicklaus challenges, yet remains playable for golfers of all abilities. The course blends magnificently into a landscape that boasts breathtaking views of sparkling lakes and the rolling Chester Country countryside.
Applecross is a Member of the Talamore Family of clubs, including Talamore in Ambler as well as The Talamore Golf Resort, Mid South Club and the newly acquired Legacy Golf Links, all located in Pinehurst, NC.
Applecross hosted 28,000 rounds in 2025 with a goal to increase rounds by approx. 15% from current levels over the next 2 years.
We are the centerpiece of the Applecross community with all 660 Residents being Social Members of the Club. We have approx. 250 Associate Golf Members and 250 Full Golf Members. We are an active and vibrant Club with a very diverse Membership.
Facilities include a golf clubhouse, new banquet/wedding facility, 18 hole championship golf course with practice green, driving range, teaching building, Toptracer range, Fitness Center, Indoor & Outdoor pools, Tennis and a Spa.
Our greens are A1/A4 bentgrass USGA spec sand-based greens, the tees and fairways are Declaration bentgrass and tees are capped with straight sand. The primary rough is a turf-type tall fescue.
We have a full slate of Maintenance Equipment, which is reviewed and added to on a regular basis. The Talamore Family of Clubs is dedicated to making sure its grounds staff has the right equipment and tools to excel in the job and maintain excellent conditions.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will assist everyday maintenance of the club grounds and the golf course.
This position will help supervise a maintenance staff of all year round and seasonal grounds staff employees and will also be responsible for performing skilled maintenance tasks as directed by the Superintendent.
Applecross takes pride in our level of work-life balance, and fully appreciates the level of commitment from all staff members. The candidate chosen can expect to work between 40-55 hours a week during peak season with the off season being usually no more than 40 hours per week, with some weeks in the off season being very light. Candidates should expect to work every other weekend in season or as mutually coordinated with the Superintendent.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
· Work and collaborate with the Superintendent to schedule and assign work tasks
for grounds crew members and supervise employees to ensure quality work is being performed.
· Train grounds staff on the operation of equipment while keeping safety at the forefront of any maintenance operations.
· Serve as the supervisor in charge when the Superintendent is off property.
· Managing landscape beds and plantings. Includes mulching, weed control, edging, pruning, and removal/renovation of existing landscape beds.
· Managing soil moisture levels in fine turf, including the implementation of syringing and hand watering techniques using a moisture meter.
· Mixing and applying pesticides using John Deere HD 200 sprayer and backpack
sprayers. We currently have 2 new John Deere HD200 sprayers.
· Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing Rainbird heads and irrigation system breaks.
· Applying fertilizer products using push spreaders and vehicle mounted spreaders.
· Operation of all grounds maintenance equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
· Maintain pesticide application record logs in accordance with government regulations.
· Snow removal and management during the winter months for clubhouse and fitness center parking lots.
· Lead crews in tree removal activities including felling of trees, breakdown, and cleanup.
· Course setup duties as needed.
· Experience with aeration and aeration cleanup.

Job Requirements
· This is a great opportunity for a recent 2 - 4 year student graduate or an experienced grounds foreman looking to further his or her career.
· High School Diploma
· Formal education in turfgrass maintenance or a closely related field, preferably having completed a minimum of an associate degree program.
· Possession of a PA Category 7 pesticide license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
· Possess a strong work ethic and have an eye for detail.
· Must be able to work with a wide variety of staff members.
· Must have a track record of being a dependable employee.
· Must have a valid driver's license.
· Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and perform simple physical labor tasks when required.
· You should be aware of the time commitment it takes to manage a high-end golf course in the busy times of the year.
· Must be willing to work weekends during the main golf season (approximately April-
November), also must be willing to work Holidays when needed (Memorial Day, 4 th of July, and Labor Day, and large member events, etc.)
· Ability and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
· Be a detail-oriented individual.
· Have basic computer knowledge and competently use resources such as an Irrigation Computer and Microsoft Office.
