The Grounds Department is focused on building a strong, professional team and maintaining a high-quality fleet of equipment to support daily golf course operations. The department utilizes a diverse fleet of Toro, John Deere, and other turf and grounds equipment.

Position Summary

Dubuque Golf & Country Club is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and service of the club's golf course and grounds equipment.

This is the sole mechanic position within the Grounds Department and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced equipment technician who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a diverse equipment fleet. The successful candidate will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Grounds Department to ensure equipment is properly maintained, serviced, organized, and available when needed.

The position will primarily focus on golf course maintenance equipment, small engines, utility vehicles, tractors, and other grounds equipment. The mechanic will also assist with welding and fabrication projects as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on a diverse fleet of golf course and grounds equipment.

Service and repair Toro, John Deere, and other turf maintenance equipment.

Diagnose and repair small engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, and other mechanical components.

Maintain and repair golf course mowing equipment, utility vehicles, tractors, and other grounds equipment.

Maintain equipment to manufacturer specifications and club standards.

Establish and follow preventative maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability and service life.

Maintain accurate, organized, and detailed service and repair records for all equipment.

Track parts, repairs, maintenance needs, and equipment history.

Maintain an organized and safe shop, parts inventory, tools, and work areas.

Communicate equipment conditions, upcoming maintenance needs, and repair priorities with the Golf Course Superintendent.

Assist with equipment setup, adjustments, and preparation for daily golf course operations.

Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and other shop-related work as needed.

Assist with evaluating equipment condition and making recommendations regarding repair, replacement, and future equipment needs.

Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.

Follow all applicable safety procedures and manufacturer recommendations.

Assist the Grounds Department with other tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Required

Demonstrated experience working with small engines and mechanical equipment.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

Formal education in mechanics, diesel technology, small engines, or a related field or sufficient professional experience demonstrating an equivalent level of knowledge and ability.

Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and manage multiple maintenance needs.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to maintain accurate and detailed service records.

Ability to safely operate and work around tractors, turf equipment, utility vehicles, and other grounds equipment.

Valid driver's license.

Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, parts, and tools as required.

Preferred

Previous experience as a golf course equipment mechanic or turf equipment technician.

Experience working with Toro and John Deere turf equipment.

Experience with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.

Welding and fabrication experience.

Experience maintaining reels, cutting units, and other specialized turf equipment.

Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.

Experience working in a golf course, sports turf, municipal grounds, landscape, agricultural, or similar environment.

From $24 to $27 per hour
