Snake River Sporting Club, located just 19 miles from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Assistant Superintendent to join its golf course maintenance team. This is a unique opportunity to advance your career at a premier private sporting club while living and working in a sought-after outdoor destination.
The club's Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course is currently ranked the #2 golf course in Wyoming, and the maintenance team is entering an exciting period of continued improvement and capital investment. The Senior Assistant Superintendent will play an important role in maintaining exceptional playing conditions while helping lead the daily operation and future development of the golf course.
Reporting to Golf Course Superintendent Steve Miller, the Senior Assistant Superintendent will help lead daily maintenance operations, supervise and develop staff, coordinate work assignments, and ensure maintenance practices are completed safely, efficiently, and to the standards expected by the club and its membership.
This position offers meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to grow as a golf course management professional. The successful candidate will gain exposure to agronomic planning, water management, equipment operation, staff development, and significant upcoming capital improvement projects while working alongside an experienced and established maintenance team.
Club Highlights
  • Approximately 9,000 annual rounds
  • Staff Size: 20 full-time employees and 12-15 seasonal part-time employees
  • Typical Schedule:
    • In-season: approximately 45-55 hours per week with two days off each week.
    • Off-season, generally 30-40 hours per week and offers significant flexibility based on weather and operational needs.
  • Turf Types:
    • A-4 bentgrass greens
    • Bluegrass fairways, tees, approaches, and roughs
    • Scottish Links Fescue native areas
  • Irrigation System: Rain Bird sprinkler heads with Toro controls
  • Equipment: Purchased Toro equipment
  • The club is currently receiving bids for several potential capital improvements, including:
    • Complete bunker renovation
    • Irrigation upgrades, including sprinkler replacement, additional quick couplers, satellite replacement, and new bunker irrigation
    • New island tee on #12
    • Tee leveling and regrassing
    • Driving range tee renovation, including turf mats
    • New maintenance facility

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with the daily management and operation of the golf course maintenance department.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily maintenance practices and communicate priorities to staff.
  • Supervise, delegate, and follow up on work assignments to ensure tasks are completed properly and efficiently.
  • Lead by example and help establish a positive, productive, and accountable work environment.
  • Scout the golf course regularly and communicate turf, irrigation, pest, disease, and other maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with the implementation of agronomic practices and maintenance programs.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of turfgrass management and cultural practices.
  • Assist with water management and irrigation practices.
  • Understand proper operation and use of golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Assist with equipment calibration and ensure applications are performed properly.
  • Help ensure fertilizer and plant protection applications are completed safely and accurately.
  • Monitor course conditions and communicate concerns or opportunities for improvement to the Superintendent.
  • Train and develop staff in proper maintenance practices, equipment operation, safety, and attention to detail.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and productive maintenance facility and work environment.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations regarding maintenance practices, procedures, and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent and maintenance team to maintain the standards expected by ownership and membership.
  • Assist with special projects and capital improvement projects as needed.
  • Participate in professional development, continued education, and industry networking opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4-7 years of golf course maintenance experience.
  • Certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience within a golf course maintenance operation.
  • Experience working at a high-end private club or similar golf course environment.
  • Strong understanding of turfgrass management and agronomic practices.
  • Experience with water management and irrigation systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and communicate with a predominantly Spanish-speaking maintenance team.
