Position Overview
Audubon International seeks a highly qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as Senior Director of Environmental Certifications. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for managing a team of three certification program Directors: Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Signature Sanctuary, and Communities. The incumbent will directly engage a wide range of stakeholders including but not limited to golf course superintendents, club managers, property managers, government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, academic institutions, and report directly to the President & CEO to meet annual member growth, retention, and service goals.
This is a full-time, exempt, location independent.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate member acquisition, environmental certification and conservation programs, timely communications, and smooth workflow.
- Review environmental plans, certification materials, and member submissions for completeness and alignment with program standards.
- Cooperate with Audubon International’s network of partners to ensure that program materials are up-to-date and disseminated to appropriate audiences.
- In conjunction with other staff members, the incumbent will play a leading role in marketing and promoting all of Audubon International's education and certification programs.
- Provide technical assistance on habitat management, water conservation, water quality, chemical use reduction and safety, waste reduction, and sustainable operations.
- Maintain and update records, track milestones, manage databases, and support internal and external reporting.
- Play a supporting role in the growth of program membership and the development of relationships with public and private sector organizations.
- Develop and conduct seminars, presentations, and informational briefings to help educate Audubon International members (active and prospective) about the benefits of sustainable natural resource management and the efficacy of the organization's approach to environmental stewardship.
- Promote all Audubon International programs via stakeholder meetings, media interviews, newsletters, and participation in various industry and environmental working groups.
- Travel to conferences and occasional site visits (estimated 15-25%)
- Assist with the updating and/or development of certification standards, educational resources, member outreach, webinars, case studies, recertification processes, and recognition activities.
- Collaborate with internal staff to identify opportunities to improve program delivery, member experience, and conservation outcomes.
- Oversee budget planning and resource allocation for environmental programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility and program sustainability.
- Lead team planning, priority-setting, and cross-functional coordination to ensure cohesive program delivery and staff alignment.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of program Directors; set clear performance goals and support professional development.
Work Environment and Location
This position offers flexibility to work from anywhere and is therefore location independent. Candidates located outside the Troy, NY area are encouraged to apply.
This role requires approximately 15-25% travel, including occasional site visits to member properties, attendance at industry conferences, and engagement with program participants. A valid driver’s license is required.

Job Requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical environmental concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple member accounts and competing deadlines simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of and comfort using Microsoft Office Suite, databases, spreadsheets, and virtual meeting platforms.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel approximately 15-25% of the time, including conferences or events, and occasional site visits.
• Genuine commitment to Audubon International’s mission and a passion for practical, measurable environmental improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with environmental certification programs, sustainability reporting, nonprofit member services, or providing technical assistance to organizations or landowners.
• Familiarity with golf course operations, community sustainability, or managed landscape conservation.
• Experience developing sales programs, educational materials, training resources, member newsletters, case studies, and webinars.
• Knowledge of GIS platforms, environmental assessment tools, or data visualization techniques.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, including land managers, community association managers, and municipal staff.
Salary Range
From $80,000 to $90,000 per year
