Philadelphia Country Club is a private country club located just outside the city of Philadelphia. The club is a 27-hole facility, featuring the championship Spring Mill Course, a William Flynn design, and the 9-hole Centennial Course, which was reconfigured by Jim Nagle. Both courses feature Bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways. The Spring Mill and Centennial practice ranges feature a combined total of three Bermudagrass tees and one Bentgrass tee.

In addition to golf, Philadelphia Country Club offers nine Har-Tru tennis courts, four platform tennis courts, and four pickleball courts. The club also features a large, resort-style pool and a shooting facility capable of hosting Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clays.

Philadelphia Country Club has a rich history of hosting major championships, including the 1939 U.S. Open, the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and the 2005 U.S. Men’s Amateur, which the club co-hosted. In 2026, Philadelphia Country Club again co-hosted the USGA Men’s Amateur Championship with Merion Golf Club.

The Spray Technician will work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to execute the club’s plant protection and fertility programs. This position will be responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely application of fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, plant growth regulators, wetting agents, and other plant protectants across the golf course and surrounding grounds. The Spray Technician will play an important role in maintaining high-quality playing surfaces while gaining valuable experience with advanced turfgrass management practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in turfgrass management, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work with a highly experienced agronomic team and gain hands-on experience developing and executing spray and fertility programs on Bentgrass and Bermudagrass surfaces. 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, plant growth regulators, wetting agents, and other plant protectants according to established programs and label requirements.
  • Operate and maintain three Toro 5800G sprayers and one Chem-Turf sprayer.
  • Calibrate spray and fertilizer equipment and ensure accurate application rates and coverage.
  • Assist the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents with the implementation of fertility and plant protection programs.
  • Maintain accurate application records, including products, rates, areas treated, weather conditions, and application dates.
  • Monitor turfgrass conditions and communicate pest, disease, fertility, or other agronomic concerns to the management team.
  • Assist with fertilizer applications, including granular and liquid products.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of spray equipment.
  • Follow all pesticide label requirements, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist with general golf course maintenance and other agronomic tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
1-3 years of golf course maintenance experience, including hands-on experience with golf course chemical applications. Experience with pesticide applications, sprayer operation, calibration, and fertilizer applications is required.
Educational Requirements
2-4 year degree/certificate in turfgrass management is required. We are seeking an experienced candidate with a strong working knowledge of golf course turfgrass management, chemical applications, and spray operations.
Special Requirements
Philadelphia Country Club just recently completed a multi-phase restoration and renovation project on the Spring Mill course, which received an honorable mention in Golf Digest’s Best Golf Course Renovations of 2025. The project included the installation of a new Toro irrigation system with Toro Lynx Drive accessibility, a MCI Flowtronex pump station, Better Billy Bunker installation, and the complete rebuilding and regrassing of greens to USGA specifications. The greens were regrassed with two new Bentgrass cultivars, Coho and Piranha, while the fairways and tees were regrassed with the Bentgrass cultivars Luminary and Piranha. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with these new Bentgrass cultivars, gaining valuable hands-on experience in their establishment, grow-in, and ongoing maintenance. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop practical experience working with newly renovated playing surfaces and learning the agronomic practices required to establish and maintain high-quality Bentgrass.

Salary Range

From $27 to $28 per hour
