The Alotian Club offers a hands-on professional development experience designed to prepare motivated individuals for a career as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and ultimately a Golf Course Superintendent.

Interns become part of a professional golf course management team and gain real world experience maintaining one of America's premier private golf clubs. From daily course setup and agronomy to irrigation, equipment management, construction projects, tournament preparation and crew leadership, interns are exposed to virtually every aspect of a high-end golf course operation.

Interns rotate through multiple areas of golf course management. The amount of time spent in each area will depend on previous experience, interests and individual development goals.

Daily Course Operations

• Daily golf course setup
• Mowing and general maintenance operations
• Course presentation and detail work
• Understanding daily priorities and workflow

Agronomy & Turfgrass Management

• Bentgrass putting green management
• Zoysiagrass management
• Moisture management
• Fertility programs
• Topdressing
• Aerification
• Grooming and verticutting
• General turfgrass cultivation practices

Integrated Pest Management

• Pest identification
• IPM planning
• Product inventory
• Equipment calibration
• Pesticide and fertilizer applications
• Application documentation and record keeping

Irrigation & Water Management

• Toro Lynx irrigation system
• Water scheduling
• Irrigation management and troubleshooting
• Subsurface air systems
• Greens subsurface heating and cooling hydronics units
• Moisture management and conservation
• On-site Toro Lynx training level 1

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

• Golf course equipment operation
• Reel and bedknife grinding
• Cutting unit setup
• Quality of cut
• Height of cut
• Preventive maintenance
• Equipment care and organization

Construction & Course Improvement

Interns will have opportunities to participate in future golf course improvement projects, including:

• Drainage installation
• Tee box construction
• Native grass establishment
• Tall fescue areas
• Other course enhancement projects

Horticulture & Landscape Management

• Landscape planning
• Annual flower change-outs
• Pruning
• Tree work
• Landscape design and installation

Tournament Preparation

Gain firsthand experience preparing an elite golf course for tournament play, including the attention to detail, organization and teamwork required to present championship conditions.

The Alotian Club has hosted some of the most prestigious amateur and collegiate events in golf, including:

• 2013 Western Amateur
• 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup
• 2021 Jackson T. Stephens Cup
• Future host site of the 2027 Arkansas State Amateur Championship
• Future host site of the 2027 Jackson T. Stephens Cup

Interns have the opportunity to learn what goes into preparing a golf course for championship competition and experience the standards required when the course is under the spotlight.

ABOUT THE ALOTIAN CLUB

Established in 2004, The Alotian Club is located just west of Little Rock, Arkansas, in the heart of the state's rolling hills. Founded by Warren Stephens, son of former Masters Chairman Jack Stephens, the private 18-hole club was designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio and has been recognized among Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses."

The course is situated on approximately 1,500 acres and offers spectacular views overlooking Lake Maumelle.
