Turf Technician

Hummer Turfgrass Systems Inc., located in Manheim, PA, is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Turf Technician to join our growing Maintenance Division. This role is ideal for an individual who takes ownership, prioritizing quality, and contributing to high-performance natural grass sports fields and golf surfaces across the Mid-Atlantic region. 

This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across all aspects of turfgrass management including installation, maintenance, irrigation, and agronomic practices, while working alongside experienced turf professionals.

Initial Priorities of Position: 

• Execute assigned tasks under direction of Senior Turf Managers 
• Learn and implement company standards (“Hummer Way”) 
• Develop technical turf knowledge across services offered 
• Begin progress toward Pesticide License 

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:

 Work Execution & Quality 

• Perform all assigned turf maintenance, applications, cultivation, irrigation, and field work at a high level 
• Maintain a strong attention to detail and ownership of job outcomes 
• Follow all company procedures and quality standards 

Daily Reporting & Communication 

• Complete accurate daily job reports 
• Participate in daily check-ins with Senior Turf Managers 
• Communicate site conditions, issues, and inventory needs proactively 

Operational Responsibilities 

• Assist with: 
  • Turf applications 
  • Cultural practices 
  • Irrigation repair and maintenance 
  • Sod installation and repair 
  • General field maintenance 
• Maintain cleanliness of trucks and equipment 
• Report equipment issues promptly

Safety & Professionalism 

• Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements 
• Operate equipment safely and responsibly 
• Represent the company professionally on all job sites 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• No minimum experience required (training provided) 
• Background in turf, landscaping, agriculture, or related field preferred 
• Valid driver’s license required 
• Willingness to obtain: 
  • Company paid Commercial Drivers License 
  • Company paid PA Pesticide License 
• Education (Preferred): 
  • High School Diploma, Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s Degree 

Compensation & Benefits: 

• Salary: $60,000 – $75,000

Typical Work Schedule: 

• In-Season (March–December): Monday–Friday, 4:30–5:00 AM start, 3:30–4:30 PM finish 
• Off-Season (January–February): Paid time off with full benefits 
• Occasional weekend work for sports field grow-ins will be required.
