2027 Summer Internship – 127th U.S. Amateur
Job Details
Oak Hill Country Club is a 36-hole facility located in Rochester, N.Y. Venue of the 2027 U.S. Amateur Championship. Both championship courses were designed by storied architect, Donald Ross. The East Course is consistently ranked as a top 25 course in the country and "one of the greatest venues for championship golf."
With the success of the 2019 East Course restoration and 2023 PGA Championship, a Master Plan for the West Course is on the horizon which will be led again by Andrew Green.
"Be the Best" is our team's mentality. Delivering championship course conditions second to none is what we pride ourselves on and deliver to our membership daily. Preparing future turfgrass professionals at the highest level with the skills they need to become successful superintendents. Students who embrace our culture and learn the "Oak Hill Way" will accelerate their career and be prepared for any opportunity they may encounter.
With the 2027 U.S. Amateur Championship on our doorstep there is no better time than the present to join our team. Oak Hill is seeking five interns this year to prepare all 36 holes for the 312 competitors who will take the field in August. Testing the future professionals of the game across the East and West will require all hands-on deck through the 9-day event. Our team is looking to add individuals who are driven by their passion, and willingness to learn at the highest level. We are looking for students who thrive in a team atmosphere and want to build for the bigger picture.
We pride ourselves on promoting from within. Each of our current assistants were once student interns who returned after graduating and climbed the ladder within our ranks. In the past 23 years, 12 assistants have been placed across the country in their own superintendent roles.
Students will be given detailed training and guidance into all facets of golf course management with a strong focus on the following:
- Water management
- Experience based knowledge of how we manage both USGA Bentgrass greens along with Poa/Bentgrass push-up greens
- Calibration, chemical and fertilizer application (Spray Hawking, Boom Spraying)
- Irrigation Troubleshooting and repair
- Numerous agronomic and cultural practices
- Championship Preparations
