Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Colleton River Club, a premier 45-hole private residential golf course community located in the heart of the Lowcountry in Bluffton, SC, is seeking a motivated and detailed-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent for its renowned Nicklaus Course. The Club has recently contracted course designer Andrew Green and has embarked on an aggressive master plan to improve the facility with construction anticipated for 2029. The project will focus on a reimagining of the championship course, short course, and practice facilities. The work will include greens reconstruction, new tees, construction of bunkers, regrassing all surfaces, and installation of a new irrigation system.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a turfgrass professional eager to advance in the golf course management industry. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong leadership qualities, a solid work ethic, and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional course conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to manage day-to-day operations

Lead, train, and supervise maintenance staff to uphold top-tier course conditions

Manage fleet of 50 Husqvarna autonomous robots that handle rough maintenance

Assist in all facets of course maintenance, including

  • Daily course setup and preparation
  • Irrigation system operation and troubleshooting
  • Fertilizer and pesticide applications
  • Planning and executing projects and improvements
  • Serve as acting Superintendent in their absence

Demonstrate initiative in continuing professional development and staff mentorship

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on golf course maintenance experience
A demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in golf course management
Educational Requirements
Degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field from an accredited two - or four-year institution
Special Requirements
Highly motivated self-starter with a strong desire to learn and grow
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills
A team-focused leader who inspires and guides others
Dedicated to excellence in turfgrass and environmental stewardship
