Indian Creek Country Club, located in Indian Creek Village (Miami), Florida, is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join its golf course maintenance team. The successful candidate will play an important leadership role in daily maintenance operations while receiving mentorship and professional development that will prepare them for future advancement within the industry.
Originally designed by William Flynn, Indian Creek recently completed a comprehensive golf course renovation with architect Andrew Green in 2022, restoring Flynn's original design while enhancing playability and course conditioning. The renovation was recognized by Golf Digest as the runner-up for Renovation of the Year in 2023, and the golf course is currently ranked among the top courses in Florida.
Club Highlights:
- Annual Golf Rounds: Approximately 14,000
- Total Maintenance Staff: Approximately 40 employees
- Typical Schedule:
- In Season (November-April): 5:30 AM-3:30 PM
- Out of Season (May-October): 5:30 AM-3:30 PM (some weeks until 4:00 PM depending on closure practices)
- Weekend schedule rotates based on team structure and tournament schedule

Initial Priorities of the Position:
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily golf course maintenance operations on greens, tees, fairways, and rough.
- Supervise employees and equipment usage to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Train equipment operators on proper operation, maintenance, and care of mowing and specialty equipment.
- Supervise pesticide applications and calibrate application equipment.
- Assist with irrigation system operation, pump station maintenance, drainage systems, and water management.
- Participate in employee training, evaluations, scheduling, safety programs, and personnel management.
- Help maintain championship-level playing conditions while supporting the department's long-term agronomic goals.
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:
Agronomic Leadership
- Assist in implementing comprehensive agronomic programs utilizing best management practices.
- Execute fertility, irrigation, drainage, cultivation, pest management, and cultural practices.
- Monitor turf health and identify proactive solutions to agronomic challenges.
- Maintain championship playing conditions throughout the property.
Leadership
- Lead by example while promoting professionalism and accountability.
- Foster a positive workplace culture built around teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Motivate, train, and develop employees.
- Collaborate effectively with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and fellow assistants.
Chemical & Fertility Programs
- Assist with daily and weekly fertilizer and pesticide applications.
- Maintain compliance with county, state, and federal regulations.
- Properly mix, calibrate, and apply plant protectants and fertilizers.
- Ensure chemical storage and handling areas remain organized and compliant.
Equipment & Irrigation
- Operate and oversee golf course equipment including sprayers, aerifiers, skid steers, mowers, and utility equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and daily inspections.
- Report equipment issues promptly to the Head Equipment Manager.
- Assist in irrigation troubleshooting and repairs throughout the golf course.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Turfgrass Management or a closely related field (required).
- 1-3+ years of professional golf course maintenance experience.
- Previous internship or assistant superintendent experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, irrigation systems, fertility programs, drainage, and pesticide applications.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a Florida pesticide applicator license within 90 days of employment.
