Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
Job Details
This is important supervisory and participatory work in the maintenance, repair, renovation, construction and care of the grounds and equipment utilized at one or more of the municipal golf courses. Work involves supervising unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled employees engaged in maintaining golf greens, tees, fairways, roughs, hazards, trees, plants, sprinkler systems and general grounds. An employee in this class also operates assigned vehicles; assists in planning and layout requirements of new golf course construction or renovations; participates in more difficult maintenance tasks; and participates in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal, and discipline of subordinates.

Job Requirements
• Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
• Have some supervisory experience.
• Have experience in landscape maintenance, and the repair of irrigation systems and related greens maintenance equipment.
• Possess, at the time of appointment to the position, and continue to maintain a State of Florida Public Applicator License for Restricted Use Pesticides from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Bureau of Entomology/Pest Control under provisions of Chapter 482 Florida Statutes - or - must obtain and maintain the license within five and one-half (5-1/2) months of appointment.
• Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
• Be able to deal tactfully and courteously with co-workers and the public.
• Have good computer skills and proficiency with word processing and email software used to prepare correspondence and reports.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
• Have experience maintaining Bermuda and Seashore Paspalum grasses.
• Have experience using Toro brand irrigation equipment.
• Have considerable knowledge of fertilizer analysis and calibration and application of proper turf chemicals.
• Have skill in the use of hand tools and power operated equipment utilized in golf course operations.
• Are able to plan, coordinate, train and supervise work activities and assist in the establishment and application of uniform rules, practices and procedures.
• Are able to prepare and maintain reports of activities and estimate time and material needs for work projects.
