Job Details
We’re seeking a dependable, safety-minded Golf Course Mechanic to maintain and repair our turf equipment and support the day-to-day reliability of our maintenance fleet. This role is critical to delivering excellent course conditions by keeping mowers, utility vehicles, and small engines operating at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on turf equipment (greens mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, rollers, aerifiers, sprayers, topdressers, etc.).
- Maintain gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, cutting units, reels/bedknives, and sharpening programs (grind/backlap as applicable).
- Perform routine maintenance on fleet/grounds vehicles (utility carts, UTVs, tractors, trailers) including oil changes, filters, belts, batteries, tires, brakes, and lighting.
- Track work orders, maintenance schedules, parts inventory, and equipment hours; maintain clear service records.
- Coordinate parts ordering and vendor service; recommend repairs vs. replacement and assist with budgeting.
- Support safe shop practices: lockout/tagout as applicable, proper lifting, chemical/fuel storage, and tool/equipment care.
- Assist the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent with seasonal equipment changeovers and setup.
- Respond to in-season breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime and protect turf quality.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of mechanical experience (turf equipment, small engine, diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment). Golf course experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting, and engine repair.
- Ability to set up and maintain reel and rotary cutting units; sharpening experience a plus.
- Strong organization skills for preventive maintenance and recordkeeping.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in a shop environment, and occasionally work outdoors in varying weather.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to operate equipment safely.
- Willingness to work early mornings and occasional weekends/holidays during peak season.
- Professional, team-oriented communication with the maintenance department and pro shop as needed.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Certificate/degree in small engine repair, diesel technology, or automotive technology.
- Turf equipment manufacturer training (e.g., Toro, Yamaha, , Kubota, etc.).
- Welding/fabrication skills.
- Pesticide applicator license (or willingness to obtain) if needed for shop support.
