Position Summary
Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and highly motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead its golf course maintenance and agronomy operations.
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, presentation and continued improvement of the golf course property, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, open spaces and related equipment. This position develops and implements agronomic programs, manages departmental budgets and personnel, oversees capital projects and ensures that course conditions consistently meet the expectations of the club and its members.
The successful candidate will be a visible and collaborative leader with strong agronomic expertise, sound administrative judgment and a commitment to team development, environmental stewardship, safety and exceptional playing conditions.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic and golf course maintenance programs.
- Maintain the golf course in excellent playing condition while balancing agronomic needs, member expectations, scheduled events and daily play.
- Recruit, schedule, train, supervise and evaluate golf course maintenance personnel.
- Lead and develop team members responsible for turf care, grounds, irrigation, chemical applications, equipment operation and equipment maintenance.
- Prepare and manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgets, taking corrective action as needed to achieve financial goals.
- Establish short- and long-range plans for course conditioning, infrastructure and property improvements.
- Regularly inspect the course and surrounding property, identify opportunities for improvement and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Plan and oversee golf course construction, maintenance, renovation and capital improvement projects.
- Direct all planting, fertilization and care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees throughout the property.
- Develop and maintain effective irrigation, drainage and watering systems.
- Oversee the operation of the equipment repair shop and ensure that maintenance equipment is properly serviced, secured and inventoried.
- Ensure fertilizers, pesticides, petroleum products and other controlled materials are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate personnel, maintenance, application, inventory and regulatory records.
- Implement and enforce comprehensive safety and hazard communication programs for employees, members and guests.
- Provide ongoing employee training in equipment operation, chemical handling, agronomic practices and workplace safety.
- Coordinate work performed by outside contractors and vendors.
- Recommend equipment purchases and capital improvements.
- Communicate regularly with club leadership and golf operations regarding course conditions, maintenance plans, projects, tournaments and scheduled events.
- Keep members appropriately informed about current and upcoming maintenance activities.
- Attend staff, management and applicable committee meetings.
- Determine when weather or course conditions require restrictions or closure to prevent property damage.
- Perform other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by club leadership.

Job Requirements
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience in a private club or golf course environment.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation, drainage, plant nutrition, pest management, equipment maintenance and golf course construction or renovation.
Proven ability to develop and administer operating and capital budgets.
Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing golf course operations, pesticide applications, workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organizational and communication skills.
Understanding of the rules of golf and how maintenance practices affect playability and the member experience.
Ability to lead effectively during emergencies and changing weather or course conditions.
Licenses and Professional Requirements
GCSAA Class A membership.
Current pesticide applicator certification or the ability to obtain the certification required by the State of Florida.
Valid driver’s license.
This position regularly works outdoors in changing weather conditions and around moving mechanical equipment. Exposure to noise, fumes, airborne particles, fertilizers and other approved golf course maintenance products may occur.
Candidates must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling, with or without reasonable accommodation.
