Statewide Turf Equipment is seeking an experienced Head Mechanic to join our team. We are a used turf equipment company specializing in commercial golf course and turf maintenance equipment. We are looking for a skilled, dependable mechanic who can take ownership of the mechanical preparation and repair of equipment before it is sold to customers throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Position Details
Position: Head Mechanic
Location: Sarasota, Florida
Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Pay: $34–$39 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Responsibilities
Lead and manage a small team of mechanics, assigning daily work and ensuring repairs are completed efficiently and properly.
Diagnose, repair, and maintain used commercial turf equipment.
Perform mechanical inspections and evaluate equipment condition.
Troubleshoot diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
Service and repair reel mowers, rotary mowers, aerators, utility equipment, and other large turf equipment.
Prepare used equipment for sale by completing necessary repairs, servicing, adjustments, and general mechanical preparation.
Identify parts and repairs needed to make equipment reliable and ready for the customer.
Prioritize and coordinate multiple machines and repair projects.
Assist with evaluating equipment that is purchased or taken in for resale.
Train and provide guidance to mechanics as needed.
Help ensure equipment leaving the shop meets Statewide Turf Equipment’s standards for quality and reliability.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications
Several years of professional mechanic experience preferred.
Experience working with commercial turf equipment strongly preferred.
Experience with Toro, John Deere, and/or Jacobsen equipment is highly desirable.
Experience working with large used turf equipment is a major plus.
Previous experience leading or supervising a small mechanic team preferred.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
Ability to read and understand service manuals and equipment schematics.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding repairs and equipment condition.
Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to safely operate and move large commercial turf equipment.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanic with strong leadership skills who understands that working with used equipment requires more than simply fixing a machine when something breaks. You should be able to evaluate the overall condition of a machine, identify potential problems, determine what repairs are worthwhile, and prepare equipment for resale.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on with equipment while also taking a leadership role in the shop. Experience with golf course maintenance equipment and the ability to recognize the difference between routine service, necessary repairs, and major mechanical issues will be highly valued.
