Superintendent

Manage all golf course maintenance department employees, including setting schedules and enforcing employment policies. Organize and assign staff to daily activities.

Responsible for all agronomic programs, including fertilization, fungicide, herbicide, growth regulator, and adjuvant applications.

Develop and manage the working budgets for the golf course and golf cart fleet, and assist in developing capital projects and capital budgets.

Train staff in the proper use of tools, equipment, and recordkeeping.

Apply pesticides and fertilizers as needed, and maintain all required paperwork for regulating agencies, including the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC), and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Oversee River Valley's recently upgraded irrigation system, a state-of-the-art Rain Bird system, ensuring efficient water management and full working knowledge of its controls and components.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Communicate with management staff and the Building & Grounds Chair on the progress and productivity of course functions and personnel.
2. Monitor the quality and quantity of work performed by staff.
3. Develop and implement budgets; responsible for all fiscal duties, including variance reports as needed.
4. Approve and code all invoices on a weekly basis.
5. Prepare employee schedules and weekly hours for payroll, and report payroll hours to the appropriate person.
6. Report on course conditions daily and coordinate with the Pro Shop on tee times.
7. Perform pesticide and fertilizer applications; responsible for inventory control and purchases.
8. Understand and apply water management practices that keep the golf course firm and in good playing condition, using the new Rain Bird irrigation system.
9. Responsible for all irrigation practices, inventory, and repairs, including required regulatory reports to the SRBC.
10. Maintain full familiarity with all aspects of course maintenance and equipment maintenance.
11. Maintain daily recordkeeping.
12. Operate all equipment at the highest level and train new employees in proper usage.
13. Communicate with staff daily.
14. Enforce a safe working environment daily and on all projects.
15. Maintain all facilities at River Valley Golf Course.
16. Maintain full knowledge of all golf course equipment and the golf cart fleet; assist with daily and yearly equipment maintenance and control of inventory and orders.
17. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or as they become evident.
