Job Details
Assist the Superintendent in the daily management of golf course maintenance operations and supervise crew members in the Superintendent's absence.
Assist with agronomic programs, including fertilization, fungicide, herbicide, growth regulator, and adjuvant applications.
Assist with staff scheduling, training, and daily work assignments.
Assist in the operation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of the golf course irrigation system, including River Valley's state-of-the-art Rain Bird system.
Gain hands-on experience in budgeting, capital planning, and regulatory recordkeeping as preparation for advancement to a Superintendent role.
- Assist the Superintendent in directing daily activities of maintenance staff and monitor the quality of work performed.
- Assist with scheduling, weekly hours for payroll, and daily recordkeeping.
- Perform pesticide and fertilizer applications as directed and assist with inventory control.
- Assist in operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting the Rain Bird irrigation system, including basic repairs.
- Assist with invoice coding, purchasing, and variance tracking under the Superintendent's direction.
- Report course conditions and coordinate with the Pro Shop on tee times in the Superintendent's absence.
- Operate and help maintain all golf course equipment and the golf cart fleet; assist in training new employees.
- Assist with required regulatory recordkeeping and reporting (DEP, SRBC, PA Department of Agriculture).
- Enforce a safe working environment daily and on all projects.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or as they become evident.

Experience Requirements
A minimum of one to two years of golf course or fine turf maintenance experience is preferred.
Pennsylvania pesticide applicator license preferred, or willingness to obtain one within the first season.

Educational Requirements
A two-year degree in turfgrass management or a related field is required, or progress toward a four-year degree; candidates with equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.

Must be able to work under pressure and make sound decisions on the go, applying established procedures to day-to-day maintenance issues, often with limited direct supervision.
This is a physically demanding position. Essential functions include digging with a shovel, pulling with a rope, climbing ladders, and using common hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, knives, saws, chain saws, and clippers. Lifting up to 80 pounds frequently and repeatedly is necessary. A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and maintain a flexible schedule, which may include weekends.
