2nd Assistant Superintendent

Wachesaw Plantation Club is an 18-hole, private, equity owned club designed by Tom Fazio in 1985. The club is located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. This par 72 course features Champion Ultradwarf Bermuda Greens, 419 Bermuda / Cavalier & Diamond Zoysia Tees, 419 Fairways and Roughs. The golf course is not overseeded in the winter; we use turf paint on all tees, collars, approaches, and fairways from December to February.  The club installed a completely new Toro irrigation system with a pump station, Toro Lynx software, and all new HDPE piping through the entire golf course in the spring of 2022.

The 2nd Assistant GCS will assist the Golf Course Superintendent and 1st Assistant GCS in the daily supervision and training of golf course maintenance staff, perform routine pesticide applications throughout the golf course, and assist in irrigation management/repair.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of all tasks relevant to the subordinate Equipment Operator positions.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of proper care and operation of all maintenance equipment and must be able to perform any task associated with maintaining the course or equipment.
  • Train staff on established procedures and techniques so that staff are aware of how to properly perform assigned tasks.
  • Assist staff with the daily work schedule.
  • Ensure the overall organization and cleanliness of the golf course, equipment, and maintenance facility.
  • Assume the duties of the Irrigation and Application Technicians as required.
  • Direct special repairs and modifications projects.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Preferred minimum one year serving as 2nd Assistant GCS or at least two years serving as an Application Technician. Private club experience preferred but not required.

 

 
Educational Requirements
Minimum two-year turf certificate or four-year degree with minor in turfgrass or related field. Four-year degree preferred but not required. 

 
Special Requirements
Must Obtain SC Pesticide License within 90 Days of Employment.  Knowledge and Experience working with Champion Ultradwarf Bermuda Preferred but not Required!
