Job Details
An entry-level, developmental position designed to prepare a motivated individual for advancement into an Assistant Superintendent or, ultimately, a Superintendent role.
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Golf, rotating through the key functional areas of golf course maintenance: agronomic programs, irrigation operation, equipment operation and maintenance, staff supervision, application of fertilizer, fungicides and pesticides and regulatory recordkeeping.
Well suited to a turfgrass management student, recent graduate, or experienced maintenance crew member who is pursuing certification and career advancement in golf course management.
Gains direct exposure to budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management alongside the Superintendent.
- Assist with daily maintenance tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Grounds.
- Shadow the Superintendent or Director of Grounds on scheduling, budgeting, and vendor/purchasing decisions.
- Learn proper pesticide and fertilizer application procedures under direct supervision, working toward licensure.
- Learn the operation of the Rain Bird irrigation system and Watertronics pump station, including daily monitoring and basic troubleshooting.
- Learn proper operation and maintenance of golf course equipment and the golf cart fleet.
- Participate in training on regulatory recordkeeping and reporting requirements (DEP, SRBC, PA Department of Agriculture, PA Department of Health).
- Assist with daily recordkeeping and course condition reports.
- Follow all safety procedures and help maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties and learning assignments as directed.
