The results are in from this year’s Audubon International BioBlitz.
BioBlitz is a free species-counting competition designed to showcase the environmental value of the natural habitats found on golf courses.
The event ranked golf courses in three categories: Biodiversity, Participation and Best Photos.
The University of Maryland Golf Course finished atop the biodiversity category with 437 species recorded on the property. Glencoe (Illinois) Golf Club recorded the highest participation while Sugar Creek Golf Course in Villa Park, Illinois, took home the top spot for best photo.
Highest Biodiversity
- First Place: University of Maryland Golf Course, College Park, Maryland: Recorded 437 species.
- Second Place: Naples Lakes Country Club, Naples, Florida: Recorded 395 species.
- Third Place: Belfair POA, Bluffton, South Carolina: Recorded 305 species.
Highest Participation
- First Place: Glencoe (Illinois) Golf Club.
- Second Place: Village Links of Glen Ellyn (Illinois).
- Third Place: Sandhill Crane Golf Club, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Best Photos:
- First Place: Sugar Creek Golf Course, Villa Park, Illinois: Stacked painted turtles.
- Second Place: La Iguana Golf Course, Playa Herradura, Costa Rica: Nine-banded armadillo.
- Third Place: Sagamore Springs Golf Club, Lynnfield, Massachusetts: Honeybee on milkweed.
